How it goes
Three steps, about an hour,
most of it conversation.
- 1
We come to you
Someone from our team comes to your house at a time that works for you. No samples to drop off, no waiting on a lab.
- 2
We test at your sink
We set up at your kitchen counter and run the full panel right there. Not a quick dip strip. A real test.
- 3
We go through it together
Every number, explained in plain English. You keep a printed copy of the results whatever you decide to do next.
What people say
“Dan was incredibly professional and took the time to explain our water test results without any sales pressure. We felt empowered to make the right choice for our home.”
A good fit for
Who should get
a water test?
Most homes across Washington, Sullivan, and Carter counties test hard to very hard. Most people have no idea where theirs falls.
Honestly, anyone who’s curious. But most of the people who schedule are in one of these situations:
You just moved into a new home and want to know what you’re working with.
Your skin or hair has been dry and you’re wondering if the water is part of it.
You’ve noticed spots on your dishes or a chlorine smell from the faucet.
You’re on well water and haven’t tested in a while.
You’re pregnant or have young kids and want to make sure the water is clean.
You saw your city’s numbers on the EWG database and want to know what it means for your specific house.
If any of that sounds familiar, the test will give you answers. If none of it does and you’re just curious, that’s a good enough reason too.
The panel
What we’re looking at
in your water.
The test covers the stuff that actually shows up in Tri-Cities water, and what each number means for your house.
Hardness
The scale on your fixtures and the film on your skin.
Chlorine
That pool smell coming out of your faucet.
pH
Whether your water is slowly eating at your pipes.
Iron
Orange staining in the tub and a metallic taste.
TDS
Everything dissolved in the water, added up.
Disinfection byproducts
What forms when chlorine meets organic matter.
Bacteria
Well water. The one you can’t see, smell, or taste.
Sulfur
Well water. The rotten-egg smell.
Nitrates
Well water. Matters most if you have an infant.
We sit down and go through the results together. What’s in your water, where it’s coming from, what it’s doing to your skin, your appliances, and your pipes. We’ll show you how your levels compare to both federal limits and the stricter health-based guidelines most people don’t know about.
Every home is different. Two houses on the same street can have different results depending on your pipes, your plumbing age, and where you sit on your utility’s distribution system. That’s why we test at your tap, not at a lab.
The honest answer
What if I do need something?
For drinking water only, a reverse osmosis system at your kitchen sink runs about $2,000. Whole-home treatment, meaning softening, carbon filtration, and reverse osmosis together, starts around $5,450 on city water. Well water with iron or a few things going on runs higher, and we’d rather tell you that now than at your kitchen table.
We offer financing through Wisetack, so it doesn’t have to be one payment. And most people are already paying for their water without counting it: bottled water, pitcher filters, extra detergent, a water heater that quits early. We’ll go through those numbers with you during the test, against your actual results.
You’ll get real numbers in writing before you decide anything, and you’re never asked to decide on the spot. Plenty of people take the quote home and sit on it. That’s the whole point of leaving you a printed copy.
Before you book
Common questions.
Is the free water test really free?
Yes. The in-home test is free with no obligation. We come to your home, run the panel on your kitchen counter, walk through the results with you, and leave you a printed copy. If you decide you want a system, we can talk about what that looks like. If you don’t, that’s completely fine.
How long does the water test take?
About an hour. Most of that time is the conversation after the test, where we walk through every result and what it means for your home.
Do I need to be home the whole time?
Yes, and that’s the point. The test itself only takes a few minutes. The value is in sitting down together afterward and going through what the numbers mean for your house. If you have a partner who’ll have questions later, it’s worth having them there too.
What does Mountain View test for?
Hardness (calcium and magnesium), chlorine and chloramine, pH, iron, total dissolved solids, and indicators for disinfection byproducts like trihalomethanes. For homes on well water we also check for bacteria, sulfur, and nitrates.
How much does a water treatment system cost?
A reverse osmosis system for drinking water runs about $2,000. Whole-home treatment, softening and carbon filtration and reverse osmosis together, starts around $5,450 on city water. Well water with iron or several issues runs higher. We finance through Wisetack, and you’ll have real numbers in writing before you decide anything. The test itself is free either way.
Do I get the results even if I don’t buy anything?
Always. You get a printed copy of everything we found, and it’s yours to keep, compare, or take to somebody else. We’d rather you have the information than not.
What if I rent?
We’ll still test, and plenty of renters want to know what’s coming out of their tap. Just know that most treatment options involve plumbing work that needs your landlord’s sign-off. There are point-of-use options that don’t, and we’ll tell you which is which.
Where in the Tri-Cities do you test?
Johnson City, Kingsport, Bristol (TN and VA), Jonesborough, Elizabethton, Erwin, Bluff City, Blountville, Greeneville, and the surrounding counties. If you’re close to the Tri-Cities and not sure, call or text 423-218-9361 and we’ll let you know.
Will someone try to sell me a system during the visit?
No. We test, we explain the numbers, and we answer questions. If your water is fine, we tell you that. If something is worth addressing, we’ll walk through options and pricing only if you want to see them. There’s no pressure to decide during the visit.
